Super Simple Mango Smoothie

As a picky eater I often struggle to get my five fruit and veg a day. In fact, as shameful as it is for me to admit it, there are often weeks where I am not confident I even get five fruit or veg in seven days! I am making it a habit to try my upmost best to get all five each day and smoothies have been helping with this. I am aware that they are often high in sugars but I have found that making smoothies are better for you as you can control what goes in, not to mention how much cheaper they are to make at home!

In previous smoothies, I have often been a little to adventurous and overloaded it with weird fruit and veg combos, so for this blog I tried something super simple and it actually turned out a success!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Fresh Mango
  • 1 Handful Of Frozen Mango
  • 2 Bananas
  • 700ml Orange Juice

This makes a good amount of smoothie that will keep for a couple of days in the fridge.

METHOD

First, peel the banana, chop it and throw it in the blender, this was easy. Next came chopping up the mango, whilst trying this it occurred to me that I had never chopped up a mango before. After attempting to slice straight through it and failing. I decided it must be like an avocado. So logically I needed to score the fruit around the stone, twist it and then pull the fruit apart, this did not work either. After getting frustrated and moaning out loud about how a 24 year old cannot even cut a mango, I decided to treat the stone like a core and cut the mango like an apple. This worked and after a little celebration, in the blender it went.

I added a handful of frozen mango to make the smoothie colder and thicker and then poured in the orange juice. After a 45 second blitz in the blender the smoothie was ready. As I was pouring the smoothie into my cup, I was secretly hoping that this would taste as good as I was imagining it to be. I am pleased to report that this smoothie was a success, it is simple and refreshing, particularly on a warm sunny day and allows me to get three of my five a day in. I think that is a Hanna record!

SIDE NOTE: It was so good that I drank all the smoothie the same day and then had stomach ache that night. So I would not recommend doing that, only make this if you have any level of self control, I evidently do not!
